Jazz Point Ibiza is once again bringing some of the biggest names on the international jazz scene to perform here in Ibiza. This is the fifth annual Jazz Point Festival, and it will run from 10to 13 October. David Moss and Adam Lenox of the Ibiza Music Agency work together with Joel Chriss Productions in New York to create these special events that are dedicated to making our island an important part of the international jazz scene.

The Festival begins on Thursday 10/10 with three exciting events. At 17:00 the Opening Party Jam Session will be hosted by the WOM Radio Café on the seafront in Santa Eulalia. It will feature Andrés Coll who will be joined on stage by many of the Jazz Point international headliners. Andrés is a multi-instrumentalist who was born and raised on Ibiza, and he is one of the top talents on the Spanish jazz scene. He will be playing with an amazing collection of international stars that includes Albino Mbie, Santi Debriano, Su Terry, Charles Owens and Josiah Woodson, plus local headliner Pere Navarro. In addition, the musical couple of Rob and Bethany Clearfield will add their special talents to the mix. 
 
At 19:30 the celebration moves to the roof terrace of The Standard Hotel in Ibiza Town on the Vara de Rey, where Albino Mbie & Santi Debriano will delight you with their special form of international jazz. Albino is an award winning Guitarist, Singer and Composer whose performances combine the energies of different musical traditions to create a uniquely authentic sound. Santi is widely acclaimed for his talent as a Double Bassist, Guitarist, and Composer. As a soloist, he has performed at many of the world’s most famous festivals and concert halls. From 21:30 onward the party continues into the night in The Standard’s Jara Restaurant, as Andrés Coll returns to once again jam with the international stars.

On the following night (Friday 11/10) at 21:00, the beat goes on in Ibiza Town at Teatro Ibiza - the island’s iconic home to live music. The famed headliners Su Terry & Charles Owens will lead a Sextet of talented international stars. Charles is an internationally acclaimed master tenor saxophonist, composer, band leader, recording artist, and educator. Su is a world renowned soloist on the saxophone and clarinet, who has performed at famous clubs and festivals throughout the world including Montreux, Nice, Quito, Ottawa, Playboy, Montreal, and Hartford. “She plays like Charlie Parker reincarnated! She smokes!” (Jazz Central Station).
 
On Saturday 12/10 Jazz Point will present two exciting shows – one in the afternoon and another in the evening. At 14:30 at the Parco Ibiza in San Antonio, Albino Mbie will lead an international Quintet that combines the essence of several musical traditions to create a uniquely authentic sound. At 21:00 the Festival returns to Teatro Ibiza with the Rob Luft Quintet. Rob is a rapidly rising star on the European jazz scene. This award-winning guitarist from London has garnered comparisons to the legends of jazz. His recent accolades include the prestigious Kenny Wheeler Prize from The Royal Academy of Music and 2nd Prize in The Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition.

On Sunday 13/10 at noon in Can Ventosa, the Festival closes with a performance by the Big Band Ciutat D’Eivissa under the direction of Vicent Tur. It is a free concert and they will be playing a repertoire based on famous jazz standards, some of which are arranged by the director.
 
In addition to these amazing shows, some of the performers will be giving “Master Classes” for local musicians at Can Ventosa on Saturday 12/10 from 12:00. These are open sessions where the musical masters share their wealth of knowledge about jazz and the art of performing at the highest level.
